LONE STAR BASKETBALL & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Welcome to the Lone Star Basketball Program! With a simple player development model, we have built one of the most respected club basketball programs in the area. You have been chosen and given a unique opportunity. We hope that you make the most of it!
With that said, our primary mission is still a commitment to leading young men to becoming future community leaders, committed husbands, engaged and supportive fathers, winners, hard-working employees, compassionate employers; men who can live a successful and productive life as defined by Biblical principles. Many of our alumni have reached the point in life where they no longer play the game. It is in that phase of life where we can see the program’s true impact.
TEAM MANAGEMENT
Team General Manager
With player development critical to your player’s success, the volunteer General Manager will be your primary point of contact for all issues. This will allow the Coach to focus on the developmental aspect of your player. Your GM will be able to help with any non-basketball/coaching issues. He is NOT there to manage any of the on-the-court issues (lineups, coaching, etc.). He is there to assist in whatever capacity the coach needs him to assist. He will relay information to you regarding practice times, game times, etc. If you ever have issues that you need to get clarification on regarding anything Lone Star Basketball, go to your GM first. He may be able to answer your questions. If not, he'll get you pointed in the right direction.
Communication Process
At this stage of development, we recognize that this stage of development it is a safe place to fail. Therefore, we strongly encourage the players to take control of their basketball career and experience. It is incumbent upon your players to go directly to the coach to address any issues, etc. If the issue needs to be escalated and parents involved, the GM will address it directly with the parents.
I. Coach => Players and vice versa
II. II. Coach => GM => Parents
III. III. GM => Parents and vice versa
48-Hour Rule
If something comes up or an incident takes place that makes you unhappy, we ask that you wait 48 hours PRIOR to communicating the issue to your GM. DO NOT GO DIRECTLY TO THE COACH. This is important. Our goal is to let the coach be fully focused on developing your player and not distracted by any issues preventing him from accomplishing his task.
PARENT/PLAYER BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
As is typical in basketball, the officiating may be suspect, or the opposing team may have different playing standards when it comes to competition. The officiating and behavior of opposing teams is out of our control. Therefore, no matter how difficult, we will NOT comment toward the officials or to the opposing team’s coaches, players and parents. Lone Star Basketball will be different and recognize these things are teachable moments to our players and will force them to overcome any obstacles they face. Coach Malvern will take care of any player discipline; however it is your responsibility to control your own actions during the many heated times in basketball.
LESSONS
Some of our coaches offer personal instruction in all aspects of the game. Contact your coach directly to inquire about potential lessons. Lessons are 100% completely optional.
